Hardwood Gate Replacement for a Listed Building in Norton
We recently completed a bespoke hardwood gate replacement in Norton, just off the Green, where the original gates on a listed building had become badly rotten and were in urgent need of replacement.
The aim of the project was simple, but important. The new gates needed to respect the character of the property and closely match the style of the existing ones, while also providing the strength, security and durability expected from a high-quality modern installation.
Matching the Original Gates
Because this was a listed building in Norton, it was important that the replacement gates were in keeping with the original design. We carefully crafted a new pair of gates to replicate the look and proportions of the previous set, preserving the traditional appearance of the entrance while greatly improving the overall condition and lifespan of the gates.
Before installation, the new gates were manufactured in beautiful hardwood, giving them the strength and long-term durability needed for an external entrance gate. The natural finish of the timber showed off the quality of the craftsmanship before the painting process began.
Preparation and Finishing
To ensure a high-quality and long-lasting finish, the gates were primed, undercoated and gloss painted before being fitted on site. The final red finish gives the entrance a striking, traditional look that suits the property perfectly and brings the front boundary back to life.
As with all exterior joinery, proper preparation is just as important as the installation itself. Using the correct coating system helps protect the timber from the elements and keeps the gates looking smart for years to come.
Black Hardware and Added Security
To complete the installation, we fitted black gate hardware throughout, which works brilliantly against the bold painted finish and complements the traditional style of the property. A high-security key lock was also installed, giving the customer added peace of mind as well as a neat and professional finish.
The result is a pair of gates that not only look the part, but also provide improved function, security and reliability for everyday use.
Bespoke Joinery That Lasts
This project is a great example of how bespoke joinery can breathe new life into a property while staying true to its original character. Replacing rotten gates with carefully made hardwood alternatives ensures the entrance remains both attractive and practical for many years to come.
It is always satisfying to see a finished job like this in place, especially on a property with so much character. These gates now look right at home and should continue to serve the building well for many years to come.
